Search. Tough tech topic. My approach to design is to build components that are amazing at one thing, and then combine them with other components to build complex products. Each component is agnostic to it’s use case, which means it can be used in a variety of situations without strong dependencies to it.

I feel like many of BB’s features can be powered by a single search algorithm, and I've been working this month to find discover the building blocks of this algorithm. Getting the search right means unlocking (más o meno) 5 key-features with a single implementation - I want that 🤤

So I went down the rabbit hole to design a search system that I can leverage later on for all search-related features in BB. I have to shut my mouth about the upcoming stuff, but the first search-feature you might already know about is finding all relevant content for a specific life-challenge, topic or skill you might want to evolve. To get more strategic in designing a great search experience, I also had to clarify the vision for search-related features, so I sketched out the user journey that I would love most, and surprised myself with the finalised UI/UX designs which I'll use for the first versions.

Product

Experimented with different types of search-experiences (Figma prototypes) to understand how adding content, look up and curation works. Especially needed more clarity how I want to search and add new stuff. Translated the found insights into a final UI/UX design, which also clarifies the approach to build the search API’s and algos that will power all of Batchbrew’s search features.

Finalised last months UI/UX and product drafts for the first two phases of the product, nailing down on search-related features. Is'dope.
Finalised approach to store data based on my latest learnings, and decided which providers to choose
Finalised approach to search-architecture and search-techniques to use, and which providers to choose
Finalised approach to backend abstractions and API integrations, and outlined the BB search API

Personal

Slow burner that took up my evenings: reconsidered my company set up (and, personally, reflected more on my life-situation and where/how I want to live in let’s say 5 years from now)
Got my first band-assisted muscle up (dang ⚡️)
I’m off supplements again - not a big change I feel. Get a good sleep, eat healthy, it’ll play out.

Grateful for

My workout coach Daniel who put together a slick routine for me 💪🏽
Taking some time off with my parents - tbh this was also a personally challenging time as I was exploring more on my personality, my history and how to express myself when I was there. This is part of my journey to become a better communicator, which turned out to actually cut through the fog and understand who “I” am - not who my parents raised. Deep topic, maybe should write a blog post huh..
The friendships I have around my home town. Met up with a hand full of friends, shout out to Jacob, Raoul and Janina. Not taking for granted that you make time to meet up so spontaneously in my week off.
Shout out to Harry, thank you so much once more for challenging me to go deeper with myself and experiment with new ways of expressing myself with others.
