Where this comes from

Two years of exploring and discovering are compounding in this first release. At the time I started this, I din’t know I was building Batchbrew yet. I was exhausted by my 4th attempt to launch a business, I needed a rest, I needed to do something I love. I didn’t want to solve a problem for others, I wanted to solve mine: chasing one success-story after another, trying to build something “meaningful” and always feeling empty inside.

So I started following the breadcrumbs 🕵🏼‍♂️: doing stuff I love, without needing it to lead to anything. I learnt how to draw, and through that I learned that meaning is a story. I learned how to do a handstand, and through that I learned how to cope with my fears. I learnt how to improvise on the piano, and through that I learned how to note and express my emotions. I learnt how to meditate, and through that I learned that I’m not a story.

And then I sat down in one of my fav cafés, every day, and opened Figma, and started sketching 🎨. UI’s for something I just thought “looks slick”. Building a product concept for something I felt like “man that would be so! cool!”. I started designing algorithms and sketching out the data structures, building a couple of PoC’s, dipping my toes into the water. I understood more and more that listening to that inherent feeling of what product I’d love to use every day by far outweighs all the user interviews I could have made. It wasn’t easy to get started, as my mind kept asking for a meaning, but somehow I excused myself to my inner judge by calling this an “art project”. Founded by a seemingly limitless runway through a 15-25h freelance job, which freed up a good chunk of time for daydreaming and coffee-sipping, I understood one insight at a time what I love doing. And I gradually stacked one block on top of another, to build the stack that now runs Batchbrew.

It took me two years to strategically go deep and learn what I love to bring to the world. What is this thing they call Giorgio. What does it do. Part of this process was doing my workouts, art, and music, and another part was doing the work on the Figma boards and GitHub repos which revealed themselves as Batchbrew.

Taking a step back here I can see Batchbrew is the product I would have benefited so much from both at the times I felt lost - when I tried to experiment with some new skill or topic - and at the times I got excited about something and wanted to go deeper, learn more. Entertainment platforms and productivity tools just don’t get the job done the way I think it’s right for me. While I love YouTube, Notion, FigJam and Apple Podcast, there is a blank space when it comes to actually using and applying inspiring ideas to my own journey. I find myself overwhelmed with zero-substance noise, companies diluting my attention, and my fruitless attempts to grab a hold of the ideas that actually help me grow. I noticed this also in the past, throughout my explorative process: I was missing a space that helps me tune in on what I love, and supports me to learn and grow. Batchbrew is now becoming that space, step by step, release by release, starting today:

What am I shipping today?

Version 1 🏄🏽‍♂️ It’s the foundation for what’s next, and although on the surface it only has one seemingly simple feature, the waters are quite deep. It packages the data structures and architectures necessary to create the product I envision to help us build new skills, activate our inspiration for our projects, and evolve our ideas about our life and the world 🌎

This is not a beta, this is not an experiment. I have 182 open tabs on my mobile browser, 171 items in my watch-later playlist, 87 items in my “good stuff” bookmarks folder, 56 entries in my “good books” Notion page. I’m now moving this to my Batchbrew account. They are spread across multiple devices, multiple platforms, and never show up when I need them. They are not searchable, not consolidated, and it takes considerable effort to find the right thing at the right time. Impossible to curate my inspiration in a way that helps me progress on my projects.

Batchbrew Version 1 for macOS comes with two features, and will ship one more in the next months with Version 2:

Save "the good stuff" from the web into “Spaces” for your mind, where you can evolve ideas and build new skills with those resources
Batchbrew builds your knowledge base in the background. “Spaces” merely link to your saved resources, but the hard-copy is in your base.
Soon: Batchbrew helps you find the right resources from your base when you need it, á la "the right information at the right time" (no, it’s not a chat bot).

What's next

The next weeks will be all about improving performance, adding support for more source types, and of course delivering an unprecedented search. iOS, Android and Windows Apps are on the way, and a little surprise is dropping around Christmas if all goes well. And then there is some stuff that I simply need to get done for the basics. One of my leading principles is to build less, but with the highest quality I can deliver. So the next 3-4 months are mainly about stabilising the foundation and improving how our resources and ideas are stored in Batchbrew, and the following 3-4 months will be about leveraging this foundation to help us use and apply the knowledge in Batchbrew for good.
